The retirement age continues its inexorable advance since, in the pension reform that the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero agreed with the social agents, it was established that the legal age would go from 65 years to 67. This change began to be made gradually from 2013 and is expected to end in 2027.
Currently, in 2021, the legal retirement age is set at 66 years
. Next year, two months will be added. In 2023 another two, and so on until reaching the target of 67 years.
In addition, since 2013 and annually, a year has been added to the pension calculation period, with the aim of reaching 25 years in 2022 (before the reform it was 15 years).
This means that for the calculation of the pension the last 25 years of contributions of the worker will be taken into account
.
In the pension reform recently agreed between the Executive of Pedro Sánchez and the social agents, the legal age is not touched, so there are no planned changes in this regard.
What does seem to be changes is in the calculation period, since the Government intends to adapt the system to the new reality of the labor market, with much more discontinuous professional careers such as those of the youngest.
However, this is a negotiation that will take place in the coming months and that would enter a second package of pension reforms.

What is contemplated in this first battery of measures is the repeal of the sustainability factor imposed by the Government of Mariano Rajoy, which linked the amount of the pension to the evolution of life expectancy. This tool will be replaced by an "intergenerational equity mechanism" yet to be determined.
