With the participation of 95 male and female competitors from the governorates of (Homs, Hama, Tartous, and Damascus Countryside), a bicycle marathon was held today as part of the activities of the seventh day of the Castle and Wadi Festival in the Wadi al-Nadarah region in the Homs countryside, a bicycle marathon that started from Deir Mar Gerges Square in the town of Mashtayeh all the way to the University of Hawash Square.
Faisal Derby, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Sports Federation in Homs, pointed out in a statement to SANA the importance of sports participation in the bicycle race, as the sport was transferred to the street through this high-end social sports game, pointing to the great support provided by the General Sports Federation to hold such sporting events, especially in such a festival. Such as the Citadel and Wadi Festival, which has become an important identity in Syria and abroad, explaining that preparations will be made from now on to add new sports to the festival next year, so that sport will be an important part of it.
In turn, the Bicycle Marathon Organization, Al-Batul Nasser, a member of the Homs branch leadership of the Sports Federation, and the head of the Individual Games Office, indicated that the contestants will travel a distance of 8 kilometers to reach Al-Hawash University Square, where all necessary measures have been taken for the safety of the participants, pointing out that the event was organized today to celebrate the performance of the constitutional oath and a message to the world that Syria is fine.
For his part, Muhammad al-Turk, the coach of the Syrian national cycling team and the Damascus countryside team, explained that their participation in the festival and their invitation to them constitute a push forward for them, considering that the event bears a character other than racing and gives players more development in the cycling game.
The contestant Ammar Selim from Tartous said, “We came today to be part of this important festival and to practice this wonderful sport in the picturesque atmosphere of Wadi Al-Nadara.” While the contestant Tariq Koueider from the Damascus countryside expressed his happiness with this youth participation in cycling, in which players from a number of Syrian governorates gather, which made It gives us enthusiasm, while the contestant Judy Al-Jabban explained that her participation in the bicycle race at the Citadel and Wadi Festival is very important, as it has become one of the ancient festivals that athletes are proud of.
As for the contestants, Muhammad Issa Al-Nasser and Bahjat Wannous, they pointed out the importance of reviving the sport of cycling because of its benefits and components.
The cycling marathon is held in cooperation between the Executive Committee of the Sports Federation in Homs and the Syrian Cycling Federation.
