Haimhausen - Where was the first school in Haimhausen? Where was the legendary artist café where famous actors, writers and other artists met? Hiltrud Frühauf from the local history working group of the Haimhauser Kultur-Kreis answered these questions very well. After the first walk in the village in autumn 2020, there was again the opportunity to find out more about Haimhausen's past, which numerous interested parties were happy to do.

The tours began at the Adriatic Grill, formerly the Nörl Inn with a popular dance and cinema hall in the house next door. The path then led into the Pfarrstrasse to the listed vicarage. Hiltrud Frühauf told of the eventful history of the rectory, whose predecessor buildings were twice victims of the flames. A stele in the rectory garden refers to the "apple pastor" and opponent of the NS regime Korbinian Aigner, who worked as a chaplain from 1921 to 1925 in Haimhausen.

The school history of Haimhausen was explained using the example of the “teacher's house” built in 1852 by Count Theobald Butler in Pfarrstrasse, the third and penultimate location of the Haimhauser school after Dorfstrasse and Dachauer Strasse. Frühauf referred to the "Hansbauer" farm next to the St. Nikolaus church, which was mentioned as such in a document as early as 1591 and whose court name has been preserved to this day.

The path then led from the upper main street to the village street past houses in which handicrafts such as wagner, rope maker, weaver, saddler, baker, baker and blacksmith were practiced in former times. Schäffler also worked in the village street for the nearby brewery of the lords of the castle. A famous building was located at Dorfstrasse 10 in the 20th century, because it first housed the Wolf photo studio and bathing establishment, and then from 1948 the famous “Café Schmidt”, also known as “Café Madame” and “Last Salon”. It was a meeting point for well-known actresses and artists and even the setting for the film “To the point, sweetheart”. Photos by Albrecht Schinnerer testify to legendary artist festivals.

The historically most interesting building is likely to be the former Schlossjäger- und Ledererhaus at Dorfstrasse 24.

The previous house at this point, already mentioned in a document in 1660, was on an island surrounded by the Mühlbach.

The last tanner in the village, Alois Bruckmeier, worked there until 1959.

It was an extremely ambitious historical walk that aroused enthusiasm and admiration from all participants.

For participants who would like to know more about the history of Haimhausen, the "Chronicle of Haimhausen" is recommended, which can be purchased in the town hall.
