Regensburg - The joy was great: On Thursday (August 5th) at 10 a.m., the new playground in the Brandlberg residential area was opened, as reported by the city of Regensburg *.

Mayor Dr.

Astrid Freudenstein was given the honor of holding the opening ceremony.

The playground was built in autumn 2020, but the opening was scheduled for 2021, so that the lawns had time to grow in.

Regensburg: The idea of the playground came from the children

In fact, the idea for the “wild climbing forest” came from the children after Anna Schledorn from the Office for Communal Youth Work had worked out their wishes and needs with all classes at the Konrad School.

After gathering ideas, the children had to prioritize their wishes.

This gave rise to the theme “Wild climbing forest with large tree trunks”.

Subsequently, a small group of children from the day care center, together with Angelika Diewald from the garden department, Anna Schledorn, the art teacher Claudia Lermer and the landscape architect Günter Spörl from the FLU planning team, developed a model that described how exactly the requirements should be implemented.

Regensburg playground: the result can be seen

And here it is now: the large and individual play area in the Brandlberg residential area, which was created under the direction of Brigitte Kellner, playground planner from the FLU planning team.

In order to challenge and promote the motor and coordination skills of the different age groups equally, the playground can be divided into three different areas.

The first part is for the toddlers with a playhouse, sand construction site, balancing elements, slide and bird's nest swing so that they can develop the skills of exploring and experiencing.

This is adjacent to the ball game field for free play, team sports and training of dexterity and coordination.

Children's skills are encouraged and challenged in the playground

The adventurous climbing park with three high play and climbing towers, on which a curved slide and a spiral tube slide are attached, form the focus.

Ropes, climbing trunks and suspension bridges offer the opportunity to learn to balance. Only naturally grown robinia was used for the construction, which was combined with ropes and nets made of Hercules material and slides made of stainless steel.

Mayor Dr.

Astrid Freudenstein knows the importance of a playground for children: “The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child gives children the right to co-determination.

We implemented this reliably in Regensburg.

Children have been involved in the planning of playgrounds for years.

They know best what a playground needs to be nice to play there.

If children

help develop

their playgrounds, then these exciting and attractive places and the money for the playground construction are guaranteed to be used sensibly. ”
