The Press and Society Institute (IPYS) denounced in a statement this Thursday that the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, has "limited the coverage of the press in official activities."

Since Castillo assumed the presidency, the press has not been allowed to enter his official activities.

This Thursday, Castillo participated in an inauguration ceremony in which he received recognition as head of the Armed Forces and the National Police.

For this activity, the media were informed that the transmission would only be on the state channel.

Meanwhile, the journalists had to remain outside the event where the police placed "bars at all entrances," the IPYS statement added.

For other official activities, such as those of the ministers, the presence of the media has been allowed.

For its part, the National Radio and Television Society had already raised the same claim this week and demanded that the new president allow access to the information.

Castillo has not commented on the complaints from these journalistic organizations.

CNN contacted the Presidency and has yet to receive a response.

They denounce a lack of transparency

A few days ago, the Peruvian Press Council criticized Pedro Castillo for not carrying out his activities as president from the Government Palace.

Castillo had been dispatching from his home without giving details of his meetings, which according to Peruvian law limits the transparency of the authority.

Article 16 of Law 28024 establishes in the section on Registration of Online Visits and Official Agendas that the president and other public officials must schedule and notify meetings that take place outside the institutional headquarters.

In a statement, the Presidential Press and Strategic Communication Secretariat said that until it is decided which will be the new headquarters of the presidential office, Castillo will carry out the investiture work in the Government Palace.

Among Castillo's announcements in his first speech as president on July 28, he said that he would not use the Government Palace, also known as Casa de Pizarro, and that it would pass into the hands of the Ministry of Culture.
