The moment of truth of Linoy Ashram has arrived. One of the great hopes of Israeli sports came to the surface in Tokyo this morning (Friday) in the hope of qualifying for the finals of the multi-sport tournament in artistic gymnastics, perhaps on the way to arranging for Israel a fourth medal in this wonderful Olympics.

Unlike gymnastics or other championships during the year in artistic gymnastics, here at the Olympics only one medal will be awarded - in a multi-fight, with a cumulative score of the four devices (in order: hoop, batons, ribbon and ball). The 10 best gymnasts out of 26 who will participate in the qualifiers will advance to the finals, which will be held on Saturday starting at 9:20 p.m.

The pressure is great, and so are the expectations. The 22-year-old Ashram, who is participating in her first Olympics, has won numerous titles in the last four years, including gold medals at the European Championships, silver and bronze medals at the World Championships and five gold medals at the last Grand Prix competition held in Tel Aviv.

The talented Israeli hopes to at least improve on the Israeli record at the Olympics - the eighth place achieved by Neta Rivkin in London 2012 - and while the podium certainly seems realistic, the rivalry is no less strong.

In order to get the gold, Ashram will have to overcome the sisters Dina and Arina Avrina, who control the industry with a high hand, and also Alina Hernsko, another candidate for the medal.

In the qualifiers, another Israeli competitor - 20-year-old Nicole Zelikman, who is not a candidate for a medal but hopes to succeed in getting a ticket to the finals.

It should be noted that Israel has never had two different gymnasts in an Olympic final.
