A big storm around the German athlete Anika Shalev in a modern five-fight.

It starts with a 200-meter freestyle in the pool, continues with fencing, jumping-style horse riding and ends with shooting and running.

Shalev set the best result in both the 200-meter swim and also finished first in fencing, which gave her an almost indelible advantage over the rest of the rivalry and guaranteed her a medal and probably also the gold.

When the athletes switched to the riding track, Shalev experienced an unpleasant event when the horse he was supposed to ride, "Saint Boy", simply refused to perform the jumps and refused to participate.

Shalev, the five-time world champion who finished fourth in Rio, began to weep bitterly while on the horse.

Here began a great drama and due to the fact that there is no audience in the games, we got everything live.

Shalev's coach Kim Reisner shouted, "Hit him, hit him," and even hit him herself.

The rider did whip the horse and tried to pull his mouth back with a leash.

Shalev also tried to do a round with the horse in an unobstructed area to try to calm him down, but nothing made the horse continue to ride and so the absolute favorite turned to gold for last place and lost any chance.

It should be noted that this competition is not about the horses of the riders themselves as in the other riding competitions, but about the horses provided to them by the competition and selected in a random raffle just 20 minutes before the start of the competition. Each horse participates twice in the competition: once with the bottom of the table and once with the top. It so happened that "Saint Boy" rode badly already with the first rider and refused three times to jump over obstacles. Despite this Levy consulted a veterinarian and received advice from the horse’s owner on how to make him function. At first he refused to set off at all, after a few jumps he just stopped, then just got stuck in obstacles and eventually refused to move at all.

Shalev, who could not hold back the tears, then said, "I tried and tried, but he did not want to move. I just started crying. I did not expect to have to convince him to move and that is why I cried. I felt he was insecure and tried to do everything."

The German Olympic Committee responded to the storm by calling for changes to the competition rules so that "both the horse and the rider will be protected. The welfare of the animals and the fair conditions of competition for the athletes must be the focus."

The reactions to the event were not long in coming and on social media, the shouts of coach Reisner were posted while Shalev herself received a lot of hate messages. "It's tragic for me," Shalev said, "it will take me a long time to recover from it. I don't know why the horse was so insecure." Shalev, who is generally considered a very sensitive rider, said: "It breaks my heart that I did not show it. I think people fail to fully understand what happened."

Coach Reisner, who herself has competed in 5 in the past, said: "I told her to hit the horse, but she did not torture him in any way. The fact that you hit the horse in the back is not considered torture. She did not pull the horse out of his mouth and she had no objects. "Sharp to abuse him. Horse abuse looks completely different."

Following the photos and reactions around the world, the modern Battle of Five is facing a very difficult crisis. The pressure is great and now activists and athletes must understand that this is a turning point. No one wants negative headlines.
