North Korea further developed its nuclear and missile program in the first half of the year, thereby violating international requirements. This emerges from an excerpt from a confidential report by the United Nations that the Reuters news agency was able to see. The report by independent observers states that the government in Pyongyang "continues to seek material and technology for these programs abroad".
North Korea was sanctioned by the United Nations in 2006 for its nuclear and missile program.
The UN Security Council has tightened the punitive measures to prevent the funding of the programs.
The sanctions include a ban on the export of coal and other raw materials and the import of oil.
"Sea exports of coal and other sanctioned raw materials from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea continued," the report said.
The North Korean legation to the United Nations in New York did not initially respond to inquiries.
