The gymnast Lukas Dauser, who won silver on bars at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, originally comes from Glonn.

On Thursday, August 5th, the town organized a small reception for the medalist.

Glonn

- A group of selected Glonners gathers between the maypole and the town hall.

The first champagne corks are already popping while they are still waiting for Lukas Dauser.

The 28-year-old, who won silver on bars at the Olympic Games three days ago, is originally from Glonn.

"We are happy that he has time for us at all," says Ms. Heimbuchner, clerk in the Glonn town hall.

“You know the pictures from Garmisch when the athletes come home,” she continues.

Even if Corona hardly allows it: “We wanted to do a little something.” Therefore, only acquaintances of the gymnast were invited to the small welcome party.

Dauser: "This is how you imagine a reception in Bavaria."

Then you can hear the music coming closer.

The Glonner Musi plays the silver medalist from his parents' front door to the market square.

When Dauser reached the square, the sun made its way through the clouds.

“This is how you imagine a reception in Bavaria,” says the 28-year-old with a laugh, looking at the music.

"As a Bavarian, you can't imagine it much nicer." He was still speechless: "I haven't really digested what I did three days ago." Glonn is his home, even if he is already haven't lived there for a long time.

“But whenever I come here, I immediately feel at home,” he says.

First Glonner in the Golden Book for 30 years

In front of the entrance to the town hall, there is a small bar and a standing table with flowers.

On it lies the Golden Book of Glonn, in which names such as Cardinal Marx, Gerhard Polt and Franz-Josef Strauss are written.

"I think there is no better way to congratulate you," says First Mayor Josef Oswald: "Your name fits in well on the list." The 28-year-old is the first Glonner in thirty years to appear on the pages of the book perpetuate.

Next to the date, he paints the Olympic rings.

And then everyone wants a piece of the successful Olympian.

Greetings with wet eyes, a lot of pats on the back and even more photos that the 28-year-old, who now lives in Halle, takes with his friends in front of the town hall.

“It's unbelievable,” says Dauser finally when the hustle and bustle has subsided a little.

“It felt like I did a parallel bars exercise yesterday.” It will probably be a few days before he has achieved second place.

After the award ceremony, it went to the doping control, then to the press conference.

From there he was taken directly to the ZDF with his own shuttle.

Only then did he have a few minutes to catch his breath and call his family.

Dauser: "That is indescribable."

He has not gotten much sleep since then: In the Olympic village, coaches and team Germany celebrated, sleeping on the plane did not work, and the first night back in Germany was celebrated until five in the morning, he says.

He could hardly save himself from appointments in the near future.

"New ones keep coming in."

There used to be a three-meter springboard at the Wiesmühle in Glonn.

“As a child, I was always asked whether I was the one doing the somersaults from the tower in the Wiesmühle,” he remembers with a smile.

"When you look back, it's indescribable."
