The Canadian singer and photographer portrays stars such as Jennifer Hudson, Rita Ora, St. Vincent or Grimes for the edition of the famous 2022 almanac

Calendars are, by definition, 12 months.

But the owners of the Pirelli, and less a simple counter of days and more an object of art and desire, have had to give theirs twice.

In 2021 and because of the covid - who else - the famous almanac stopped being published.

But this year he returns, renewed and powerful.

At the target, Canadian musician and photographer Bryan Adams;

behind the camera, too, lots of music: Cher, Iggy Pop, Jennifer Hudson, Rita Ora, Grimes, St. Vincent or Saweetie.

Music is, therefore, the common thread of this story that has been woven in a couple of days in early June in Los Angeles (California), on stages ranging from the streets of the megalopolis to the Palace theater or the hotel Chateau Marmont.

The story closed with a final day at the end of July in Capri, Italy, where Adams shot the rapper Saweetie looking at the bar from the balcony of the La Scalinatella hotel.

The portraits that have been seen so far, both in black and white and in color, show different generations of musical stars of very different styles: rock, ballads, rap, pop or electronic. The photos are only behind the scenes; the official portraits will be made public with the calendar, at the end of November. Adams, now a portraitist of his colleagues by profession and experienced in several photography books and on the pages of prestigious magazines, has decided that his name should be

On The Road

, on the road. "It is on the road where I have spent the last 45 years, because the musician's life is made up of roads, trips, waiting in hotels, dressing room hours," Adams explained in a press release released by the organization.

This new edition of the almanac takes up a story that began in 1964 and which — several stops through — has now been running for 48 editions. Through its pages they have gone from models such as Naomi Campbell (the first time with only 16 years) to Eva Herzigova, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Laetitia Casta, Monica Belluci, Christy Turlington, Heidi Klum, Natalia Vodianova, Daria Werbowy, Doutzen Kroes, Lara Stone or Isabelli Fontana. There have also been celebrities from film, song or sports: Isabella Rossellini, John Malkovich, Sofia Loren, Catherine Deneuve, Serena Williams, Yoko Ono, Whoopi Goldberg, Gigi Hadid, Misty Copeland, Emma Watson or Claire Foy; There is also a Spanish presence, because they have been portrayed for the same Penelope Cruz or Rosalía - in the last edition, 2020. Now Adams, a 62-year-old Canadian, joins a long list of up to 37 prestigious names among which those of Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts (one of the main inspirations of the Canadian musician), Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier, Steve McCurry or Tim Walker stand out. .

Adams's role as a portraitist is not new. His love of photography started in 1997, when he began taking photos of his tours and recording sessions, and has given way to professionalization. Amy Winehouse, Victoria Beckham, Mick Jagger, Mickey Rourke or Naomi Campbell have passed through his camera, and even Elizabeth II of England herself, whom he photographed on the occasion of his Golden Jubilee. In fact, he has published in magazines such as

Vogue

,

Vanity Fair

or

Harper's Bazaar

, and he has an art magazine called Zoo. In 1999 she published her first book of photographs,

Made in Canada

, which was followed by another in the United Kingdom (

Haven

, in 2000), and one more in 2004 entitled

American Women.

, in which she portrayed 90 successful women between New York and Los Angeles dressed in Calvin Klein, a charity that sought to raise money for breast cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center hospital. In 2008 he came to give life to the campaign of the Italian fashion brand Guess inspired by Sofia Loren. He has already made a retrospective of his work.

Adams does not leave music aside for this facet: he has a Grammy and three Oscar nominations, for songs from the soundtracks of

Robin Hood

(the theme

(Everything I Do) I Do It for You

, from 1991),

Don Juan DeMarco

(

Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman

, 1994) and

Love has two faces

(

I've Finally Found Someone

, 1996) The calendar will fill a round year, in which he will also release a new album, the 15th of his career.
