At 11 o'clock in the evening yesterday (7th), the police launched an anti-smuggling operation in the waters off Lan Kok Tsui, Tuen Mun. During this period, they were facing the sea about 1 km northwest of Lan Kok Tsui and chased a suspected smuggling speedboat. A mainland man fell into the sea and disappeared. The authorities later dispatched Marine Police, Fire Services, Marine Department and Government Flying Service to search and rescue the scene, but the missing person has not been found yet.
The police arrested another mainland man surnamed Zhou (35 years old) on the spot, and seized 15 dogs, 13 cats and 22 boxes of unpaid cigarettes on the suspicious speedboat. The dogs and cats were later seized by AFCD officers.
Zhou Nan was arrested on suspicion of "endangering the safety of others at sea", "attempting to import unmanifested cargo", "cruel treatment of animals", "importing live animals without a license" and "illegal entry".
