Because of the high number of corona infections, the RKI classifies large parts of southern France as a high-risk area - in the middle of the holiday season.

New rules come into force.

Munich / Nice / Saint-Tropez - France continues to wrestle with the coronavirus pandemic and is introducing a health passport.

Disadvantages for the unvaccinated as well as mass protests included.

The reality: The corona infection numbers are still high, even in midsummer.

And there is currently no real way out in sight.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has now reacted to developments in the German neighbor.

Corona pandemic: RKI classifies southern France as a high-risk area

For example, on the recommendation of the RKI, the federal government classifies larger parts of France as a corona high-risk area.

The Robert Koch Institute announced this Friday (August 6) that this will apply to the regions of Occitania, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and the island of Corsica from Sunday.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region also includes the popular holiday and holiday destinations Aix-en-Provence, Nice, Cannes and Saint-Tropez on the French Rivieira.

The new classification also entails new corona rules: People entering Germany from a high-risk area must fill out a digital entry form.

Returnees who have not been vaccinated or have recovered must be quarantined in Germany.

So-called free testing with fresh negative evidence is possible after five days at the earliest.

If you want to fly to the south of France, you must present the airline with a negative test certificate or proof of recovery or vaccination before departure.

Anyone who drives back to Germany by car from there must also provide appropriate proof of recovery or a vaccination against the coronavirus when the federal police check it.

Or, if neither vaccinated nor recovered, show a negative test.

Coronavirus pandemic: health passport - France reacts decisively to corona infection numbers

It was not until Thursday (August 5) that France reacted decisively to the corona situation in the country.

Specifically: Despite some violent protests on the street, the French Constitutional Council has approved the tightening of the corona restrictions in the country.

The expansion of the regulations on the health passport (pass sanitaire) and the compulsory vaccination for health workers can thus come into force on Monday (August 9th) as planned.

The assessment of the corona situation in the Netherlands is different: After a decline in the number of infections, the north-western German neighbor is no longer a high-risk area.
