Three children were killed near the
Ngorongoro
Nature Reserve
in Tanzania after being attacked while the children were searching for lost cattle.
The children, aged 9 to 11, had just returned from school and went into a forest near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to search for the animals,
Justine Masejo
, Arusha's police chief, told AFP. .
"There, the lions attacked and killed the three children, and
wounded another,
" he added.
The proximity of wild animals in parks or nature reserves with large populated centers makes it difficult to control security.
Located in the north of Tanzania, the Ngorongoro,
a crater
known
worldwide
for its landscapes and its wild fauna, is included in the Unesco world heritage.
Masejo urged neighboring communities to "be wary of wild animals, especially when
parents ask their children to take care of livestock
."
Tanzania allows ranchers to live in national parks and to graze their livestock near wildlife, but conflicts between humans and animals,
especially with lions and elephants,
are common, as they sometimes attack the inhabitants. , their livestock or destroy their crops.
A pride of lionesses rests in Tanzania's Tarangire National Park.
Last year, Tanzania removed 36 lions from
the Serengeti National Park
, near Ngorongoro, after attacks on humans and livestock.
