Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin stressed the need to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian people in a non-politicized manner, with commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today that Vershinin discussed, during a phone call, with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Syria Geir Pedersen, the situation in Syria in detail and the tasks of strengthening the political solution process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves.
In its statement, the Foreign Ministry added that Vershinin referred to “the importance of conducting an objective assessment of the situation in various regions of Syria and the need to continue the fight against terrorists and to continue providing non-politicized humanitarian aid based on a commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria in strict accordance with the mandate of the United Nations stipulated in a resolution of the Council of Ministers.” International Security No. 2254”.
Vershinin also discussed, in another call, with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, the cooperation between the two sides in humanitarian issues.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that during the call, "the main issues of constructive interaction between the Russian side and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs were discussed, and special attention was paid to the current situation in Syria and Ethiopia."
