When trying to overtake a tractor-trailer on the A99 near Kirchheim, an 82-year-old was caught in his car by the truck and dragged along with it.
The accident occurred in the middle of rush hour traffic.
The result: a kilometer-long traffic jam on the motorway ring.
Kirchheim - According to the police, the accident occurred on Thursday around 4.40 p.m. on the A99 in the direction of Stuttgart between the Munich East interchange and the Kirchheim junction.
According to the current state of investigation, the 82-year-old VW driver from Munich first drove on the hard shoulder.
It is still unclear why he was on the road in violation of the prohibition.
In front of an Austrian truck that a 48-year-old Bulgarian was driving, the VW driver wanted to switch to the right-hand lane.
The semitrailer and VW collided.
The VW was dragged along by the tractor-trailer for a few meters before it skidded to the left and hit the central guardrail.
From there, the VW hurled back into the left lane and hit an Iveco head-on, which was being driven by a 27-year-old from Munich.
The 8-2 year old was slightly injured in the collision and was taken to a nearby Munich hospital by ambulance as a precaution.
The other drivers were uninjured.
The police estimate the total damage to be around 36,000 euros.
The volunteer fire brigade and the Hohenbrunn motorway maintenance depot secured the site of the accident.
The left and middle driving tires were blocked for about two and a half hours.
The traffic was diverted past the accident site on the right-hand lane and the hard shoulder.
Nevertheless, the traffic backed up over a length of around ten kilometers.
As reported by the police, the arrival of the emergency services was delayed considerably because there were significant problems with the rescue alley. According to this, many road users did not form an emergency lane or did so much too late and then closed it again immediately. In this context, the police point out that the road users form an emergency lane when the traffic comes to a standstill and that they also stop, as several rescue workers usually approach. If the traffic is flowing, you are asked to clear the driving pavement on which rescue workers are driving.
