A tweet went viral on Twitter stating: “In TN they are showing how @Kicillofok delivers the same vans as new in each act where they say they deliver vans to take care of Buenos Aires residents.

The same patents ”(sic).

The content of the tweet is true.

Indeed, the journalistic report broadcast by the television channel Todo Noticias (TN) shows how in different official acts of the Buenos Aires Government, police mobiles with the same license plate were delivered to different municipalities.

In addition, Reverso was able to verify that this did occur on at least 3 occasions, in events led by the Buenos Aires governor and his Minister of Security, Sergio Berni.

The tweet of the user Luciana Sabina (@kalipolis) had at the end of this article more than 1,400 retweets and almost 3,000 “I like it”.

Several users consulted the WhatsApp number of Reverso (+54 9 11 3679-0690) if the video published on the TN account of Instagram - which has almost 500 thousand reproductions - was true.

What is the complaint

The TN journalist Rodrigo Alegre pointed out in the report that, in October 2020, the mayor of Esteban Echeverría, Fernando Gray (Frente de Todos), “received 60 new patrol cars,” which were delivered in one act by Kicillof and Berni.

Gray indicated on that occasion that they were Ford trucks 0 kilometer.

"Those same police mobiles were presented again as new, but in other cities," said Alegre.

Reverso was

able to verify, through images and videos, that the vehicle shown in the video with the AE 365 KC patent was indeed present on at least 2 occasions: at the presentation of the mayor of Echeverría Fernando Gray on October 28, 2020 , and, 7 months later, at the official ceremony in Bahía Blanca on May 6, 2021.

The Buenos Aires patrols of the controversy.

On the left, an interview with Gray on the day of the presentation of the patrols in Esteban Echeverría on October 28;

On the right, the presentation of the patrol cars in Bahía Blanca on May 6, 2021. On both occasions it can be seen that the mobile with the AE 365 KC patent is present.

In addition, in the photographic record of the official act held in La Plata last April 15, as verified by

Reverso

, it can be seen that there is a Ford patent AE 408 HJ, which had already been delivered in Esteban Echeverría on October 28, 2020 ( see video of the event here).

Other districts: in December 2020, a Ford Ranger patent AE 424 PY was delivered in San Miguel del Monte;

that same patrol car was handed over in the act of April in La Plata.

What was explained in the Buenos Aires government

From Berni's team they assured that TN's journalistic report "is a complete infamy" and explained that the Buenos Aires Ministry of Security has "the power to move patrol cars and policemen within the provincial territory according to needs."

Regarding what happened in Esteban Echeverría, they pointed out that funds from the national government - about $ 10 billion - were used "to purchase patrol cars, mainly for 28 municipalities in the Province," and that each jurisdiction was in charge of interacting with each automotive company , but that, as "the terminals have had problems, as a result of the pandemic, in the delivery of orders," when the municipality of Esteban Echeverría had agreed to deliver, the terminal informed him that they were at least 40 days late.

The Government of Kicillof regulated that 75% of the national funds destined for the municipalities of the Buenos Aires territory would be distributed by the province to each municipality of the suburbs according to the number of population - mostly, for the purchase of police mobiles.

The patrol cars bought by those municipalities must remain in those districts, but the rest of the mobiles can be managed by the Security portfolio, as explained by the Ministry.

“What the Security Ministry did with its own patrol cars bought in the same period is to give the mayor [of Esteban Echeverría] those 60 patrol cars for 42 days.

When the Ministry had the patrol cars again, it distributed them;

some went to Operative Sol, others to Bahía Blanca, others to Patagones ”, they added.

Esteban Echeverría and La Plata's response

Esteban Echeverría is one of the municipalities that received part of the fund for the purchase of patrol cars.

Reverso contacted his mayor, Fernando Gray, who explained that when he signed the agreement to adhere to the national government funding program, Berni offered him to "advance the delivery" of 60 Ford Rangers, on the condition that they return them once the acquisition by the municipality.

Gray explained that the municipal tender was won by Toyota and that, when the minister asked him for these trucks, he asked that they remain for the municipality.

"In an act I finally returned the 60 Ford Ranger to the Province and I kept the 60 Toyotas Hilux - here you can see the title deed - which cannot leave my district," explained the mayor.

The Rangers, Gray pointed out to this media, were used in Esteban Echeverría, and therefore, when they were presented in other municipalities, "they were no longer 0 kilometer but they were impeccable."

The mayor said: "Both I and the minister act in good faith."

From the Press area of the municipality of La Plata they explained to

Reverso

that the mayor Julio Garro (Together for Change) participated in the event at the request of Kicillof, because it was about mobiles to patrol the city, but that the municipal management "does not have a way to control whether or not these vehicles circulate in the city ”.

They added that, unlike other municipalities, such as Esteban Echeverría, "La Plata was not included in the national fund" destined to the Province of Buenos Aires for the acquisition of police mobiles for the municipalities.

Without prejudice to the explanations of the provincial and municipal officials of Buenos Aires, what circulates in social networks is true because, indeed, in different official acts carried out in different Buenos Aires cities, police vehicles with the same patents were presented.
