Canada's national team soccer player made history yesterday (Friday) when she became the first transgender woman and the first sexual biennial athlete to win a medal.
Canada defeated Sweden in a penalty shootout after Julia Grosso scored the decisive penalty.
Quinn, known only by her first name, uses only plural and said after the semi-final against the United States: "We got a lot of messages from young people who said they had never seen a transgender person in a sport before. Sport is the most exciting part of my life and makes me happy. If I can allow children to play the sport they do, that's my legacy and that's why I'm here.

Kevin's mother, Linda, played football while her father played rugby.
Kevin herself "edited" their Canada national team debut in 2014.
The 25-year-old footballer has 68 appearances for the national team, including a bronze medal in Rio 2016, but at the time she was not known as a transgender.
On July 21, Kevin became the first transgender athlete at the Olympics and then wrote: "I am the first transgender athlete to participate in the Olympics. I do not know how to feel. I feel proud to see the name 'Kevin' in my starting lineup and entry visa. I feel sad. When I know there were Olympic athletes before me who could not live by their truth. I feel optimistic about change, change in legislation, structure and especially in the opinions of the people. Transgender girls are suspended from sports, transgender women face discrimination as they try to fulfill their Olympic dream ".
