The Tokyo Olympics 2020 is about to end, and the Hong Kong team has achieved great results this year.

The DAB conducted a questionnaire survey on sports habits and sports policies, and found that 83.2% of the people interviewed said that they would watch the Tokyo Olympics, while more than 66.8% of the people agreed that Radio Hong Kong has a TV channel dedicated to broadcasting sports events and programs.

The DAB believes that the government still has a lot of room for improvement in the "universal, elite, and event-oriented" sports activities. It suggests that the authorities should continue to increase funding for various programs for the development of elite athletes.

In addition, in order to make sports more popular, the DAB proposes to introduce electronic sports vouchers. The citizens can use sports vouchers to pay for sports activities or courses approved by the government.

The DAB conducted a telephone questionnaire survey between July and August this year, interviewing 1,187 Hong Kong residents aged 12 or above.

The results showed that 83.6% of the citizens surveyed said that they had done one or more exercises every week in the past year; more than half of the citizens said that each exercise usually takes half an hour to an hour.

In addition, 30.1% of the interviewed citizens said that the main reason for obstructing exercise is "lack of time."

And 73.7% and 71.1% of the citizens respectively agreed that Hong Kong would host more international sports events and support the government to provide subsidies to citizens participating in sports activities.

The DAB Legislative Council Member Zheng Yongshun pointed out that in the Legislative Council meeting on August 18, a member's motion to "formulate sports policies and development blueprints for the next ten years" will be proposed. Powerful sports associations provide cross-annual funding.

It is also recommended that the government strengthen support for the advancement and employment development of active and retired athletes, including reviewing and increasing the remuneration of athletes at all levels of sports academies.

Zheng also suggested the introduction of electronic sports coupons. In the first phase, a pilot program can be implemented for students from elementary school to junior high school, and a sports coupon of 1,000 yuan per year can be issued.

If the effect is significant, it can be extended to the elderly and the entire population of Hong Kong.
