The new vocational school for nursing assistants at the Freising Clinic has passed the baptism of fire: 13 pupils completed their specialist training.

Freising

- “Difficult to say who sweated more this year: the pupils or the school team?” Emphasized the headmistress Eva Gall at the graduation ceremony at the Freising Clinic. In fact, it is all an exhausting year, because the establishment of the new vocational school for nursing assistance in autumn 2020 was an experiment with many unknowns. For months the school management, managing director Maren Kreuzer and other departments of the clinic had been busy with applications, structuring the content of the training, the search for experienced staff and upgrading the classrooms. At the same time, the economic risk lay solely with the clinic, because when schools are founded in Bavaria, hospitals have to finance the first two years of school themselves and also have a graduation rate of at least 60 percent of the students. Permanent funding from the Ministry of Culture is only possible if this is successful.

Tremendous interest

The interest in a one-year training as a nursing assistant was enormous and early in the year all training positions were taken.

But the approval of the school operation by the Ministry of Culture was still a long time coming.

“Then in July we were completely unexpectedly canceled because of structural points - accessibility - and we were all devastated.

We had to make some improvements and then in August, a few weeks before school started, we finally received the long-awaited commitment, ”says Eva Gall, describing this rollercoaster of emotions.

Good results

One year after starting school, the results are impressive: 13 of the 15 pupils completed their training and thus fulfilled the required quota for running the school in the first year. “Some schools take years to do this,” says Eva Gall. "Above all, however, the students have grown together into a team and have completed their training, which was also made difficult by Corona at times, with flying colors," she praised class leader Sylvia Schwarzbaur in front of the guests from the human resources department, nursing staff and the works council of the clinic. “In the oral part of the exam you achieved top performance and achieved an average grade of 1.4!” Eva Gall was happy to say that the Ministry has also received a lot of recognition for what you have achieved in just one year.

How good the cohesion and the aroused joy in the nursing profession is, is shown by the plans of the students: seven want to start the three-year training as a nurse at the vocational school for nursing at the Freising Clinic in September 2021, two of which thanks to particularly good grades can shorten this by one year.

Four more graduates would like to get into the practice straight away and will work at the clinic.

And the signs are also good for the second, hopefully quieter school year: the course is already fully booked.
