According to the police, the accident occurred on the ridge between Watzmann-Mittelspitze and Watzmann-Südspitze.
The 39-year-old native of Hungary lives in Schönau am Königssee.
During a morning hike, she had apparently strayed from the actual path at the weather station.
The police reported that she fell 200 meters into the east wall.
She suffered fatal injuries.

Bad weather conditions hampered the rescue work. The woman's body could still be flown out, but the strong winds around the summit no longer allowed the four emergency services to be rescued by helicopter, it said.
