This Saturday two vice ministers of the Ministry of the Interior of Peru presented their resignation letters separately.

Officials assure that the government of the president, Pedro Castillo, made decisions that affect the institutionality of the National Police.

These are Nicolás Zevallos, Vice Minister of Public Security, who has held the position since December 11, 2020, and Carlos Enrique León, Vice Minister of Internal Order, who has been in office since November 19, 2020.

León stated in his resignation letter that he did not agree with the Pedro Castillo government's claim to appoint Grover Mamani as general director of the General Directorate of the Interior Government.

He points out that, in a meeting held this Friday in the ministerial office, he announced that "said person did not meet the profile required for the position."

"Which is why I refuse to accept and be a participant in said illegal appointment that goes against my principles with the risk of a criminal complaint," explained the Deputy Minister of Internal Order.

Zevallos also expressed his disagreement.

"We have become aware of decisions that do not guarantee the necessary conditions to continue and sustain the work of strengthening and modernizing our National Police of Peru, as well as generating confidence from the public in the interior sector," he indicated in his resignation letter. .

Similarly, Walter Gutiérrez, ombudsman of Peru, sent this Wednesday a document to the president in which he asks him to re-evaluate the ministerial appointments and prevent, in his opinion, the polarization in the country from worsening, as he revealed during a Press conference.

Just three days after his inauguration as President of the Republic, three mobilizations have been carried out against the government of Pedro Castillo and the appointment of his first cabinet.

They occurred on Saturday July 31, Sunday August 1 and Thursday 5. Guido Bellido, the president of the Council of Ministers, faces a preliminary investigation in the Public Ministry for the alleged crime of apology to terrorism.

Bellido has denied being linked to any terrorist group.

New demonstrations are also scheduled this weekend.

Until this Saturday, neither Castillo nor Grover had spoken publicly about the resignations.
