The Equal Rights Commission for People with Disabilities in the Ministry of Justice today (Sunday) released new data on the adequate representation of people with disabilities in large public bodies in 2020. The data show that only 61% of public bodies and local authorities fully meet the target of employing people with disabilities.

In some councils there has been a slight improvement in the employment rate of people with disabilities.

The Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Act stipulates that public bodies employing one hundred or more employees are required to act to employ at least 5% of persons with significant disabilities as defined by law.

The law is intended to help promote the employment of people with disabilities, who often encounter barriers and difficulty integrating into the labor market, and open the doors of large employers for them.

The data show that out of 312 large public bodies - 61% (189 public bodies) meet the employment target of 5%, 26% (82 public bodies) meet a medium level (3.5% -5%), 12% (39 bodies) meet a low level (2% -3.5%), and 1% (two public bodies) do not meet the target at all.

Among the public bodies that met the goal of employing people with disabilities, at a low level: the Bank of Israel, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Lottery, the Betar Illit Development Company, the Modiin Cultural and Leisure Education Association and the Securities Authority. Kedumim do not meet all target employment minimum of persons with disabilities fourth consecutive year.

the data indicate that that despite the crisis corona significantly influences the labor market, the rate of compliance representation saved and you can see an improvement in the data when less bodies are at the level of non-compliance or at Low.

Dina Dominitz, Acting Commissioner for Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities, stated that: 35 bodies have even managed to improve. "

On the other hand, Dominitz clarified that there is still room for great improvement:" The data indicate that there is more room for increased activity on the part of public bodies to promote the employment of new workers and retain existing ones.

The Commission will continue to act to enforce the law with regard to adequate representation and to eradicate the effects of discrimination and disparities between people with disabilities and the general population, using all the tools at its disposal. "
