Police in Kiev last week arrested a gang of foreigners led by an Israeli citizen born in Russia, on suspicion of extorting hundreds of tourists in recent years.
The sting exercise has become familiar in restaurants and bars, and has already garnered numerous mentions and warnings in groups and online tourist sites.
The gang repeatedly carried out the exercise on tourists, who would order food and drinks and get from the waiters the collaborators to an inflated account up to 10 times the real price, thus ending the evening with a payment of thousands of dollars.
If they refused to pay, they would be escorted by gang members to the boardroom, where, using violence and psychological pressure, they would be forced to pay the bills.
In case of refusal - they would rob them of money or mobile phones and jewelry.
