According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Munich and Upper Bavaria, many companies lack applicants in particular.

According to figures from the Federal Employment Agency from the end of June, there are currently 463 vacant apprenticeships in the district.

There are 294 applicants who have not yet received this offer.

“Our training companies continue to rely on the training of their own young skilled workers. They more than live up to their corporate and social responsibility and offer more apprenticeships than there are applicants, ”says Otto Heinz, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Committee Erding-Freising. As a result of the corona pandemic, almost all career orientation measures were canceled this year, as in the previous year. Trial internships, training fairs and personal application interviews could often not take place at all or only to a very limited extent. The application phase in spring also suffered from the lockdown. However, Heinz emphasizes: “Nonetheless, we are relying on a catch-up effect until the beginning of the training year in September.School leavers who are not well looked after or who are undecided still have every chance of finding a suitable training position. "

Some companies are actively looking for trainees

However, the number of applicants for the vacant apprenticeship positions in the district has decreased compared to 2020 - this year by 1.1 percent, according to data from the employment agency. Their details relate to all areas of the apprenticeship market, which in addition to the IHK area (companies in industry, trade and services) also includes the craft, the liberal professions and the public service. The employment agency for the district also posted a 9.2 percent decrease in the number of apprenticeships offered. “After numerous apprenticeship positions remained vacant last year, some companies have given up the active search for apprentices. For the industries still affected by Corona restrictions such as gastronomy,In tourism or in the event sector, the situation is still very difficult. Even those who offer apprenticeships sometimes have major problems finding applicants there, ”Heinz continues.

The IHK recorded 8,362 new training contracts for Upper Bavaria in the first half of the year, a decrease of six percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
