According to the fire brigade, 263 Greek and over 200 Ukrainian and Romanian firefighters were deployed in the north of Evia, plus 66 vehicles and seven fire-fighting planes and helicopters.

Fighting forest fires: Germany sends fire brigade forces

Germany has promised aid to Greece. Almost 60 emergency services from North Rhine-Westphalia started on Sunday from Bonn in the forest fire areas near Athens, reports the news agency dpa. A convoy of 19 vehicles set in motion to support the fight against the devastating flames in Greece. A spokesman for the fire brigade said the specialized unit with forces from Bonn, Königswinter and Leverkusen is expected to arrive at the destination on Thursday by land and water. Among the 56 members of staff are 48 firefighters, 4 technical advisors for fighting vegetation fires and 4 helpers from Bonn aid organizations
