For tourists and citizens: long-distance bike routes through Höhenkirchen should not be hidden

An official long-distance cycle route leads through the community of Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn. Cyclists from near and far, if they use the route, should not be guided through the town via side streets in the future. The responsible committee of the municipal council has spoken out in favor of this. Because they are in the process of developing a cycle path concept for the community, the community councils have also dealt with this topic.

An official long-distance cycle path leads through the community of Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn. Cyclists from near and far, if they use the route, should not be guided through the town via side streets in the future. The responsible committee of the municipal council has spoken out in favor of this. Because they are in the process of developing a cycle path concept for the community, the community councils have also dealt with this topic.

Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn - There are numerous long-distance cycle routes in Germany. What very few people should know: One of them, the so-called long-distance cycle route D11, which leads from Rostock on the Baltic Sea over a distance of around 1,650 kilometers to Freilassing in the Berchtesgadener Land, also crosses the district communities of Neubiberg, Ottobrunn, Brunnthal, Höhenkirchen- Siegertsbrunn and Aying. The Environment, Energy and Transport Committee in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn has now decided in favor of using the long-distance cycle path, as it is already shown on relevant cycle tour sites on the Internet, via Münchner Straße and Rosenheimer Straße. Alternatively, the cyclists could have been guided along side streets.

Christoph Hessel from the engineering office Gevas, Humberg & Partner, which is to create a concept for bicycle and pedestrian traffic in the town, presented an interim report and presented an initial draft for the long-distance cycle path.

Because funding had to be applied for for possible construction measures, the committee members should decide whether the long-distance cycle route should run on the main routes Münchner and Rosenheimer Strasse or on secondary routes.

In the latter case, the cycle path would have branched off from Münchner Straße early on and led along Englwartinger Straße, Schulstraße and Anwanderstraße.

Bike guidance should be improved - also for our own citizens

Ultimately, however, the committee favors the route via the main roads, among other things because not only long-distance cyclists, but also all citizens and also the shops on Münchner and Rosenheimer Strasse will benefit from the improved cycling.

So-called bicycle protection strips, as they already exist on Bunnthaler Straße, are planned along the route.

In addition, colored stripes at the crossing points with the side streets should ensure more safety for cyclists and the transitions to the regional cycle paths are made safer.

A working group should deal with the overall concept

On the way to an overall concept for bicycle and pedestrian traffic, the next step is to set up a working group. Each parliamentary group should send a representative for this purpose. A member of the local General German Bicycle Club and the “Local Development and Mobility” working group should also belong to the committee. Citizens' participation in the form of a workshop is also planned.
