The groundbreaking ceremony for the Ammer-Loisach-Energie hydropower plant near Unternogg was completed almost a year ago.

The plant on the Halbammer should go into operation in a few months.

- One thing is absolutely clear to Arno Nunn: “We will never be able to supply the ten municipalities with our own power plants. We don't have enough locations for that, ”says the managing director of Ammer-Loisach-Energie. (ALE) But those responsible are very proud that the regional energy supplier will be able to put its first own hydropower plant on the Halbammer near Unterstogg into operation at the end of the year. Nunn is in constant contact with the construction companies, but there is still no precise time for the starting shot. "We'll go into operation in the fourth quarter, in November, towards the end of the year, that's the plan."

Nunn, next to Jürgen Hitz from Energie Südbayern one of two managing directors, thinks it is only "logical" that Ammer-Loisach-Energie not only supplies the citizens, private companies and business customers with hydropower, but is now doing everything in its power to generate hydropower itself .

"That is the emotional element," says Nunn, the former mayor of Oberammergau.

The plant on the Halbammer near Saulgrub generates enough electricity to supply 300 households a year.

The annual output is 500,000 kilowatt hours of electricity.

Ten municipalities participate as shareholders

Ammer-Loisach-Energie is based in Oberau.

There, in the Energie Südbayern building on Alte Ettaler Strasse, is the administration building.

The energy supplier based in Oberammergau is entered in the commercial register.

Ten municipalities from the Ammer and Loisach valleys participate as shareholders in the ALE: Bad Bayersoien, Bad Kohlgrub, Eschenlohe, Ettal, Grainau, Oberammergau, Oberau, Saulgrub, Schwaigen and Unterammergau.

In addition, there is Energie Südbayern as a share partner of the energy provider.

It was founded in 2013. In the same year, the idea of building our own power plant was born. In the past few years, ALE obtained hydropower electricity from the free market and sold it on to business and private customers. Before the end of this year, the system will produce hydropower electricity in the half-chamber, which will be fed into the grid. "With this we support the regenerative element," explains Nunn. He points out that his company's customers save electricity costs of 50 to 100 euros a year. “But we're not the cheapest supplier on the market,” he admits.

The aim of the regional energy supplier is to develop further hydropower plants.

The managing director makes it clear that you have to find any locations in the shareholder area first.

Not an easy undertaking: Because the construction of hydropower plants must meet certain requirements, such as the location on rivers, the presence of transverse barriers, falls or weirs.

In addition, the condition of the water body must improve through the construction of the facility.

In this way we create the infrastructure that the municipalities cannot even get on their feet

A second mainstay has emerged in recent years: e-cars and car sharing.

In the name of Ammer-Loisach-Energie, 13 electric cars are on the road in the district.

"With this we create the infrastructure that the municipalities cannot even get on their feet," emphasizes Nunn.

In addition, there are 24 charging stations for e-cars in the shareholder area, there are seven in Oberammergau alone.

Another goal is "added value in the region and with customers", emphasizes Nunn.

With the construction of the facility on the Halbammer, the ALE has found its heart project.

“Such a hydropower plant runs for several decades.

That goes beyond one's own horizon, ”says Nunn.

The managing director is obviously completely satisfied with the sustainability of the project: “We are on the right track.

This is a generation project. "
