Khartoum-Sana
Sudan summoned its ambassador to Ethiopia for consultations after accusations made by Addis Ababa to Khartoum of Sudanese forces incursion into its borders.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the statements issued by Ethiopian officials as “strange” and said in a statement today: “The suggestion that Sudan played a role in the conflict in the Tigray region and the claim of the occupation is a continuation of Ethiopia’s practice of overriding facts in its relationship with Sudan and promoting allegations that it has no basis or support for. It is based only on the ambitions of circles in the Ethiopian government that do not shy away from the harmful act to achieve them.”
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry added: "Sudan's interest in resolving the Tigray conflict is part of its commitment to regional peace and stability, and an expression of its keenness to restore the situation in Ethiopia and to show solidarity with the challenges it faces."
The Foreign Ministry stressed that Sudan's efforts will not stop and will continue to push for a solution to the conflict in Ethiopia.
Since last November, the Ethiopian Tigray region has been witnessing unrest after confrontations between the Ethiopian army and the Tigray Liberation Front militants, which resulted in tens of thousands of refugees fleeing to Sudan.
