In France a priest was murdered in a "dramatic" way - first details.
Paris - A Catholic priest was murdered in western France on Monday.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin told the short message service Twitter that the clergyman had been the victim of a "dramatic murder" in the Vendée department.
He pledged "all his support" to the country's Catholics.
A man turned himself in to the police in the morning and confessed to the act, according to judicial circles. Accordingly, the man had been placed under judicial supervision in the course of the investigation into the fire of Nantes Cathedral in July 2020. The church was badly damaged in a fire. A then 39-year-old volunteer community servant had confessed to starting the fire. The same man had now gone to the police in Mortagne-sur-Sèvre, about 60 kilometers from Nantes, and said he had killed a clergyman, it said. (AFP)
