The letter was sent from France and contains a message related to the Vatican financial scandals and the trial of Cardinal Angelo Becciu

The Italian police intercepted a letter addressed to Pope Francis on Monday in a Milan post office containing three bullets.

The agents confiscated the envelope at the center where Peschiera Borromeo's correspondence is classified and opened an investigation under the authorization of the Milan deputy prosecutor, Alessandra Cerreti.

For the moment, they do not exclude any hypotheses.

According to local media, the letter contains three 9-millimeter caliber bullets and a message related to the financial scandals of the Vatican and the trial that began a few days ago against several people and the cardinal defenestrated by Francisco, Angelo Becciu, accused by different economic crimes.

The press also points out that the letter, without sender, was sent from France, according to what has been learned from the stamp, and the addressee was written in ballpoint pen and although it was barely legible, it could be identified: “Pope - Vatican City, Plaza S Peter, Rome ".

The postal center employees found the envelope with the bullets during the mail sorting operations from Sunday night to Monday and immediately notified the Carabinieri and at the moment the Inspection Unit of the military corps is examining all the material. At the moment, more details of what happened are unknown and the Vatican has not made any comment.

On July 29, the first hearing of the macro-trial against a dozen defendants was held in the Vatican, among whom is the once influential Cardinal Becciu, for alleged diversion of funds and corruption. It is the first time that a cardinal has sat on the dock before a judge at the Vatican. Pope Francis recently included this modification in the Vatican legal system, since until now, cardinals were tried behind closed doors by other cardinals. The pontiff could have put the case in the hands of the Italian justice,But he decided that the Holy See take up the process as a sign of its willingness to stop and publicly condemn corruption in the Roman Curia and to shed light on a scandal in which one of its closest collaborators is directly involved until recently.

The court, chaired by the former Italian anti-mafia judge Giuseppe Pignatone, will have to elucidate the criminal dynamics and the role of the accused in what the prosecutor in charge of the investigation has classified as "a rotten and predatory system" that consisted of making investments of dubious procedure and purpose with money from the so-called Obolo de San Pedro, the instrument that channels the donations of all the churches of the world to the Vatican and that, theoretically, are destined to charity.

According to investigations, this principle was not respected and for at least a decade a parallel financial system was established in which practices such as fraud and money laundering were possible. For the Vatican this has been a great scandal, since its financial policy has been in the media spotlight for years, after other economic scandals and also in the center of the target of international organizations and institutions that have demanded transparency. .
