Munich - The floods last July caused considerable damage in Bavaria.
The water masses washed away the belongings of many of those affected;
Bridges and roads were also damaged by the masses of water.
The Bavarian Ministry of Finance has now determined the amount of damage caused by the floods in recent weeks and months.
The district of Berchtesgadener Land in particular reported considerable damage.
Floods: Ministry of Finance determined the amount of damage
The flood events of the past weeks and months have caused damage amounting to around 300 million euros in Bavaria. That is the sum that the Bavarian Ministry of Finance reported on August 9th. They are divided into the four areas of private households, municipalities, agriculture and forestry, and liberal professions. Within the Free State, the regions were affected to different degrees by the consequences of the storms. While some districts got off lightly, the floods in the north and south of Bavaria sometimes caused severe damage.
Heavy rain had triggered severe storms in several waves and wreaked havoc in parts of Bavaria.
First of all, the north of the Free State was affected, where severe flood damage occurred mainly around the cities of Hof and Ansbach.
A little later, the flood caused millions in damage, especially in the Berchtesgaden area.
The district of Berchtesgadener Land determined a total damage of 86 million euros - to the infrastructure alone.
In the district of Hof, the damage from the affected municipalities totaled more than 56 million euros.
In the Allgäu, too, cellars were full, streets were washed away, the police, fire brigade and technical relief organization were in constant use.
Floods in Bavaria: Bund-Länder summit advises on aid
How the affected districts will be helped will also be decided at the federal-state summit on August 10th. The Prime Minister and Chancellor Angela Merkel are advising on an aid fund worth billions, which is to be made up of funds from the federal and state governments. (
