When it comes to photovoltaics, the Tegernsee city council is setting an example.

The new fire station gets a large system.

Not on, but in the roof.

Tegernsee -

Because the subsidy for photovoltaic systems has changed since July, the Tegernsee City Council reconsidered the PV system for the new fire station: Instead of twelve square meters on the flat roof, it will be an in-roof solution with 320 to 340 square meters of space and an annual electricity yield of around 62 000 kilowatt hours (kWh).

Don't mess up, but stick with it and set a good example in terms of energy neutrality: After KfW had not only given loans for photovoltaic systems since July, but also one-time grants, two variants of a so-called photovoltaic in-roof solution were now up for discussion in the Tegernsee city council.

One would include 28 modules in a long strip on the edge of the roof with an annual yield of 8236 kWh and a self-consumption rate of 89.5 percent.

The CO2 reduction after 20 years would be 55 tons.

Cost point including seven kWh storage: 28,000 euros.

Approval for larger variant

The other, much larger variant with 216 modules on the east and west side of the roof would produce 62 224 kWh annually.

This with a self-consumption rate of 36.5 percent and a saving of 418 tons of CO2 over 20 years.

The cost point here: 155,000 euros including ten kWh storage.

According to the new requirements, a subsidy of 26,250 euros per residential unit is possible for the new fire station, for a total of 157,500 euros.

This has already been requested by the administration as a precaution.

Mayor Johannes Hagn (CSU) initially pleaded for the big solution with a view to the energy neutrality aimed at in the Miesbach district in 2035. However, Frank Thinnes, technical manager of the E-Werk, does not consider the storage systems to be profitable because of their current costs and capacity. Not least because the remuneration for the electricity that is not used by the house residents or cannot be stored is degressive.

While Markus Schertler (CSU) pleaded for the big solution because of the high energy requirements of the fire brigade, Florian Kohler (citizen list) waved it off.

He wanted to wait and see in which direction the development of the storage system was going and initially see the small PV solution without storage, as suggested by Thinnes, implemented.

"And when it comes to saving CO2, we should rather take the money and use it to insulate houses," said Kohler.

Decision with a view to the future

Thomas Mandl (SPD) found that 150,000 euros would not get you very far with insulation. With Ursula Janssen (Greens), he agreed: The city should be a role model and example of how the energy transition can be achieved by 2035. Both advertised not only for the larger version, but also for a decision based on the bigger picture, with a vision for the future - and not only with a view to the profitability of the system.

Mayor Hagn also referred to the increased energy demand due to increasing electromobility.

But he didn't want to act as a clairvoyant: “We are now deciding on a building that will be in place for 30 to 70 years and whose PV system will definitely be used for 30 years.

I don't know where we are technically. ”Hagn recommended making future-oriented decisions and relying on technical developments.

This was followed by 13 city councilors with two dissenting votes and approved the large in-roof solution.
