The fires in southern Europe continue to spread uncontrollably.
The Greek island of Evia is particularly hard hit by the disaster.
The situation is getting worse.
Euboea / Munich - The situation in southern Europe is becoming more and more threatening.
In Italy, Turkey and Greece, people are fighting massive fires that are spreading uncontrollably.
The second largest Greek island of Evia is particularly badly affected.
On the seventh day, too, huge areas of forest are in flames.
Steep slopes and rugged terrain make extinguishing work difficult.
On Monday night, apocalyptic scenes took place in the north of the Greek island.
Meanwhile, dramatic footage of a rescue operation on Friday had spread on social media.
Greece is fighting fires - "We have no water!"
Evacuations, lack of water, burning houses: in the coastal town of Pefki, the fire brigade, military and citizens were unable to counter the flames on the Greek island on Sunday evening, as TV images showed.
“We have no water!” Shouted the people there.
They dragged the last drops from wells in wheelbarrows and buckets while the fire engines had to go to refuel.
Fire-fighting planes were nowhere to be seen for hours, reported the TV broadcaster
Skai
.

The northern part of Evia is almost completely cut off from the rest of the island by the countless large fires.
Thousands of people have already had to leave the island.
Local residents, together with firefighters and volunteers, saved several villages from the flames on Monday night.
Although houses on the outskirts of the town, such as those in the coastal town of Pefki, have been burned down, the town centers have so far been intact.
This was reported by the
Kathimerini
newspaper
.
However, many localities are still surrounded by the flames.
Fire fighters face "serious difficulties" in fires in Greece
Although the wall of fire had already moved towards the Greek villages on Sunday afternoon, according to the residents, there was little or no air support in some areas.
The Greek civil defense chief Nikos Chardalias justified this on Sunday evening with the poor conditions.
The extremely heavy smoke development restricted the view to such an extent that some missions were impossible.
Even during the day, fire-fighting planes and helicopters would have "serious difficulties" because of the thick smoke and very limited visibility.
That said the deputy civil protection minister Nikos Hardalias the news agency ANA.
Fewer fires on the Greek island - but the next heat wave is looming
On Monday morning, satellite images in the northern part of the island showed slightly fewer sources of fire than the day before.
The television station called Skai.
This is presumably due to the fact that most of the forest has now been burned and the flames can no longer find any food.
The extent of the damage is said to be enormous.
Several Greek media mentioned an area of 50,000 hectares.

Meanwhile, the weather should make the situation around the fires even more difficult in the coming days.
Because from Monday, a new heat wave will begin in southern Europe, with temperatures in many places rising to over 40 degrees.
