Health pass: the CNIL recalls the need to control “alternative” reading devices

The health pass and its associated QR code, which contains information on the vaccination or immunity status of its holder as well as his identity, are scanned by TousAntiCovid Verif, the application provided by the government to professionals (restaurateurs, traders , managers of sports or cultural establishments, etc.) to check its validity.

Concretely, TousAntiCovid Verif makes it possible to know if the pass is valid or invalid and to know the name, first name and date of birth of the customer, without disclosing more health information on the screen.

In one of the decrees on the management of the health crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic published on Sunday in the Official Journal, it is written that any other reading device at TousAntiCovid Verif

"meeting the conditions set by an order of the ministers responsible for health and digital ”

is also admitted.

"The government will have to verify that the alternative reading devices to the TousAntiCovid Verif application comply with the conditions set (...) before they can be used by the actors having to control the sanitary pass"

, asked the Cnil Monday in its opinion on changes brought about by the law relating to the management of the health crisis.

"It should also provide additional guarantees to ensure the transparency of the device"

with for example

"the publication of a list of compliant reading applications and the source code of these devices,"

she added.

Already required since July 21 at the entrance to places of culture and leisure (museums, cinemas, theme parks, festivals, fairs, stadiums, gyms ...) welcoming more than 50 people, the health pass takes the in the form of a QR code which must be presented for lunch in a restaurant or for a drink on the terrace.

To be valid, a pass must state a screening dating from

"less than 72 hours"

- antigenic test or self-test -, a

"proof of vaccination status"

or a certificate of recovery after contracting the Covid - 19.
