There were dead and injured on Saturday on the grounds of the Graefelfingen company Glück, where a SEK arrested three armed hostage-takers after a bank robbery.

A fictional scenario that the Maltese used as a backdrop for a large-scale exercise.

Gräfelfing

- If there is an operation with injured people, every movement of the rescue team must be perfect.

The Maltese in the Munich district rehearsed the emergency again on Saturday in Graefelfing after a long forced Corona break.

The helpers, especially paramedics who were trained, had to demonstrate their skills in two scenarios.

Practice processes in the event of major damage

It is important to practice procedures for major damage situations in which several patients need to be cared for at the same time, says emergency paramedic Victor Hauschild, who organized the exercise. “In theory, we all know what to do.

But it is always different with a real exercise. ”Two case studies were chosen in which the helpers had to master the operations management procedures in addition to providing acute help for the patients, according to Hauschild.

Bank robbers injure hostages

In the first scenario presented, after a bank robbery and the hijacking of a bus, a SEK was deployed on the grounds of the gravel works of the Graefelfingen company Glück.

The three armed perpetrators are killed when they are accessed.

But they still fire and injure hostages.

In the second scenario, a traffic accident between a car and a school bus in the access road to the Lochham school campus was simulated, in which numerous young people suffered injuries, some of them serious.

No external parties

Due to the corona, the large-scale exercise was held this time without external parties such as the volunteer fire brigade and police.

There were strict hygiene and safety requirements; each of the 35 participants had to be vaccinated, recovered or tested;

In addition, there was a strict mask requirement during the exercise.

Finally being able to practice again

Organizer Victor Hauschild was extremely satisfied with the way the rescue exercise went and with the team's performance. “We weren't able to practice for a long time, but the processes worked very well.” But the exercise also showed where you still have to readjust. Above all, one is happy to finally be able to practice again, emphasizes Hauschild. Last summer, the Maltese had to cancel at short notice a large-scale exercise by the rescue service in Graefelfing that had already been planned down to the smallest detail due to Corona.
