(CNN) -

More than 99.9% of people who are fully vaccinated against covid-19 have not had a post-vaccination infection that ends in hospitalization or death, according to a CNN analysis of data from the Control Center. and Disease Prevention (CDC).

More than 164 million people in the United States were vaccinated as of Aug. 2, according to the CDC.

Less than 0.001% of that total - 1,507 people - died and less than 0.005% - 7,101 people - were hospitalized for COVID-19.

  • Is it legal to require vaccination against covid-19?

    In many circumstances, yes

The last time the CDC released data on infections from fully vaccinated people was on July 26.

Those latest figures include 938 serious cases - 862 hospitalizations and 244 additional deaths - reported during that seven-day period.

The CDC does not provide further details on when these postvaccination cases (known as

breakthrough cases

) occurred.

Who are most affected by post-vaccination infections?

About three-quarters (74%) of all reported cases of infections in vaccinated people are in people 65 years of age and older.

Of the nearly 1,500 who died, one in five died from a cause other than COVID-19 even though they had been infected, according to the CDC.
