Parisian department stores also apply the health pass

2021-08-09T16:41:30.687Z

A decision extending the pass to department stores should be published on Monday, according to the police headquarters.

The department stores on Boulevard Haussmann, in Paris, did not wait to start checking their customers' health passes.

As of this Monday morning, they had to queue, while the security guards scan their QR Code.

In front of the Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, queues could be observed on the sidewalk.

The control of the sanitary pass creates traffic jams at the entrance to Galeries Lafayette Océane Herrero / Le Figaro

To justify the device, the Galleries Lafayette invoked, on a placard stuck next to the entrance, a prefectural decision which would have taken effect from August 9.

Verification made, no order had yet been published on this subject on the site of the police headquarters on Monday at the end of the day.

Solicited, Galeries Lafayette did not wish to communicate on this subject.

The management of Printemps explained that it was “

awaiting publication of a decision from the Prefecture of Police giving the obligation to carry out a control of the health passes of [its] customers.

At this stage, we carry out a control for educational purposes in order to inform our customers that when the obligation is effective, access will only be allowed on presentation of the health pass

”, specified the group.

Customers sometimes caught off guard

In front of department stores, if some customers suspected that they would be asked for the pass at the entrance, others were caught off guard. A mother deplored “

a decision taken overnight

”. "

My mother is vaccinated but I only have one dose and we cannot go home

," she explained to

Le Figaro. It's

nonsense

, no one had warned that the pass was going to be necessary from today in the Galleries,

”she annoyed.

Even among vaccinated people, the sudden nature of the measure was sometimes puzzling. A septuagenarian who received her two doses, was thus refused entry because she had forgotten the paper version of her pass at home. Living in Stains, she will have to come back the next day, equipped with her certificate. Individuals without testing could, however, fall back on one of the white tents dotting the streets of Paris, under which antigenic tests could be carried out. One of them was thus installed not far from the galleries: it was stormed by customers without a pass.
