Russia today announced the imposition of personal sanctions on a number of Britons in response to a similar move by London regarding the human rights situation in the Russian republic of Chechnya.
"In response to the unfriendly actions of the British authorities and on the basis of the principle of reciprocity, Russia has decided to impose sanctions on a number of British officials involved in anti-Russian activities and prevent them from entering its territory," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In its statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on the British government to "abandon the confrontational approach," stressing that "any unfriendly step will not remain unanswered."
