Lidl has bagged a new deal: The discounter is now selling cannabis products.
The 21 products come from a start-up.
Bad Wimpfen - Lidl becomes a dealer.
According to the
Lebensmittel Zeitung
, cannabis products will soon
be on the shelves of the grocer
.
But anyone who hopes for a health-promoting or even intoxicating effect of the biscuits or drinks will be disappointed.
Because, according to the supplier The Green Dealers, the items lack both the psychoactive substance THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and the non-psychoactive cannabidiol (CBD).
THC is illegal in Germany.
CBD is not allowed for the food market.
Starting this week, a total of 21 different products will be available as promotional goods at Lidl.
These include “cannabis cookies”, “hash brownies” and a “cannabis energy drink”.
Why should customers reach for the goods despite the lack of intoxicating effect?
The Green Dealers cites the hemp taste and the "interesting presentation" as purchasing arguments.

Lidl enters the cannabis business: 1.5 million items on the shelves
With Lidl, The Green Dealers, which was only founded last November, has its first major success. The start-up does not manufacture the products itself, but rather sells items from Euphoria. The Czech manufacturer offers dozens of cannabis products, some of which also contain CBD. His goods offered in Germany are THC and CBD-free.
The Green Dealers has delivered a total of 1.5 million THC and CBD-free items to Lidl.
According to the
Lebensmittel Zeitung, the
middleman is generating
sales in the low million euro range.
For the year 2022, revenues of around five million euros are expected.
The Green Dealers can hope for far bigger business if THC is legalized and foods with intoxicating effects can then be sold.
