Dull, sprouted, with more wrinkles and ears
.
This is what stressed skin looks like.
The causes can be multiple and can come from outside (external aggressions such as exposure to the sun without protection or screens) or from inside (poor diet, lack of hydration).
What does it mean that the skin is stressed?
That "it cannot cope with different damages, because its
defense mechanisms are deteriorated
and it shows signs of premature aging", explains Natalia Achitte, a dermocosmiatry technician and body beautician.
How to detect these damages?
The specialist lists signs that can indicate stress on the skin and points out that there are differences in the way it is expressed in young and mature skin.
Dark circles have a genetic component, but stress plays a role.

In young skin it is observed:
✔
Dehydration or dryness
.
Due to transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and even long hours of exposure to screens.
✔
Coloration due to increased vasodilation
.
✔
Dark circles
.
Although they have a very important genetic factor, poor diet, lack of sleep and exposure to screens can make them worse.
✔
Inflammation
from radiation exposure, poor diet, or loss of water.
✔
Lack of luminosity
, caused by the imbalance in the epicutaneous barrier.
✔
Outbreaks without pus
, caused by the same stress situation, the environment, the nerves, or the continuous use of masks / face masks.
✔ Fine wrinkles that begin to stand out.
In mature skin, meanwhile, the signs are:
✔
Lack of shine
.
These cases usually have a yellowish hue.
✔
Increased skin flaccidity
, the density of the skin decreases due to the loss of natural hydration.
✔
Slightly grayish tone
.
✔
Dryness and loss of softness
, due to the decrease in moisturizing substances.
✔
Dark circles and eye contour.
When microcirculation is affected, the first area to suffer is precisely the eye contour, and dark circles and bags are accentuated.
✔
Redness

Inside out
Those skin damage can be due to internal or external causes, Achitte notes.
"The former -amplies-, referring to
dietary imbalances
(due to low quality of nutrients, or high consumption of ultra-processed foods); hormonal imbalances, anxiety or 'nervous' stress, which cause dehydration and skin reactions; and lack of sleep, which alters the hormonal secretion of melatonin and cortisol. "
Among the external causes, he mentions
fatigue and stress
(which modify the immune system and decrease skin defenses), pollution, smoking, sun exposure (which causes oxidative stress) and screens.
"To reverse this situation, the important thing internally is to strengthen the immune system, balance the microbiota, maintain or replenish hydration levels, provide nutrients and antioxidants to combat excess free radicals (RL), and always consult a doctor and a cosmetic professional ", underlines the specialist.

Routine at home
Meanwhile, externally, he suggests carrying out a complete facial care routine that includes:
✔
Double cleaning
.
Necessary for people who put on makeup.
How to do it?
"In a first step, remove all the makeup with a make-up remover or micellar water and then sanitize the skin with a facial cleanser. Then it is the turn of cleaning and the product will depend on each skin type", explains Achitte.
✔
Hydrate, decongest and repair
.
"Apply lotions, serums and creams that have the necessary solutions for each skin biotype," he suggests.
In the case of mature skin, the use of anti-aging creams is recommended.
✔
Sun and blue light protection
.
"Use sunscreen throughout the year, regardless of seasonality. Adding protection to the blue light of the devices is becoming another essential, due to the long hours we spend in front of screens," warns the cosmetologist.
✔
Exfoliation and masks
: "Once a week, perform an exfoliation for a deeper cleaning. You can also add the application of a mask to give a hydration shock," he concludes.
