The vaccine is considered a beacon of hope in the fight against Covid-19.

This Monday (August 9th) Biontech announced its profit and surplus.

Accordingly, the company achieved a net profit of just under 2.8 billion euros in the second quarter of 2021.

In the first six months of this year, the surplus therefore amounted to 3.9 billion euros.

Even more: The Biontech share has shown an increase of 2500 percent since the company's IPO.

Sales in the quarter ended June 30th were estimated at around 5.3 billion euros.

For comparison: in the same period last year it was around 41.7 million euros.

In the first half of 2021, however, Biontech reports total sales of almost 7.4 billion euros.

In the wake of the global corona pandemic, Biontech had developed one of the first vaccines against the novel corona virus. Sahin and his wife Özlem Türeci received the Federal Cross of Merit from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier after the vaccine was developed. "Your groundbreaking discovery saves lives, it saves livelihoods, it ensures our social, economic and cultural survival," said Steinmeier at the award ceremony in March 2021. The research into an effective vaccine for the pharmaceutical company from Mainz has also always paid off .
