After harassment allegations: US Governor Cuomo resigns

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has drawn conclusions from the harassment charges against him and resigned on Tuesday.

New York - The Democratic governor of the US state of New York, Andrew Cuomo, announced his resignation from the office of governor on Tuesday.

He wanted to resign within the next 14 days, said Cuomo in a video.

Previously, representatives of both parties had called for Cuomo's resignation.

US President Joe Biden * had also asked the 63-year-old to take responsibility for the allegations and to resign.

"I love New York and I would never want to be unhelpful in any way," he said.

"And the best way I can help now is to step aside and let the government return to governance," said Cuomo, explaining his resignation.

However, the 63-year-old continues to reject the harassment allegations.

"My lawyers have reviewed the investigation report in the past few days and have already denounced numerous problems and errors," explains the US governor.

“But that doesn't mean there aren't eleven women I've hurt.

And for that I apologize from the bottom of my heart, ”said Cuomo, referring to the allegations raised.

The investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James found that Cuomo had sexually molested several women.

Cuomo has been the governor of New York since 2011. The Democrat was previously the state's Attorney General and served as Secretary of Construction and President Bill Clinton between 1997 and 2001.
