The homeland is a supreme value at all levels of life. Its body is art and literature in different forms. The phenomenon of the homeland in the experience of Arab poetry in Syria is very prominent and does not stop at singing in Syria, but rather includes the entire Arab world from the ocean to the Gulf.

The book “The Homeland in Contemporary Arabic Poetry in Syria” by Dr. Nizar Abashy examines the psychological characteristics of national poetry in Syria, justifying its literary tendencies, explaining its tendencies, desires and feelings, paving the way for the motives and causes for the emergence of this poetry since independence until the end of the twentieth century, reviewing a group of poetic figures “Muhammad Al-Bazam and Khair Al-Din.” Al-Zarkali, Khalil Mardam Bey, Shafiq Jabri, Suleiman Al-Issa, Badawi Al-Jabal, Nadim Muhammad, Nizar Qabbani, Muhammad Al-Maghout, Adonis, Fayez Khaddour, and others.

The first chapter of the book discusses the concept and connotations of the homeland, referring to the national awareness in Arab poetry in Syria during independence and the internal and external variables and their impact on creativity.

The third chapter discusses the homeland and the place in Arabic poetry in Syria, pointing to the meaning of the real and figurative place and their social and psychological connotations, adopting an interesting scientific language and an analytical approach that reveals the manifestations of beauty and its implications in the poetic text.

The book issued by the Syrian General Book Organization is 487 pages in large pieces. Its author, Dr. Abshi, holds a doctorate in Arabic language and literature, former head of the Department of Arabic Language and Dean of the Higher Institute of Languages ​​at Al-Baath University in Homs. He has published several books, including “Methods of Teaching Arabic Language” and “Intertextuality in the Poetry of Suleiman Al-Issa” and “Modern Critical Attitudes”.
