The Hohenpeissenbergers are happy about their bathing lake and like to look for it.
At the moment, however, the joys of bathing are somewhat clouded: algae, geese and too many white fish are causing problems for the community and visitors.
Hohenpeißenberg -
He was approached by "bathing mermaids" who regularly bathe in the Hohenpeißenberg "Boot Pond" that algae are now so high in the water that they would interfere with swimming. “We have candelabrum algae. They grow quite well in the bathing lake, ”said Mayor Thomas Dorsch (CSU / non-party) at the latest municipal council meeting. The reason why the chandelier algae thrive so well in the body of water that the community of Hohenpeißenberg has artificially created is actually a gratifying one: "The reason is the good water quality," says Dorsch.
Initially, the community had the growth of the algae "under control" with the corresponding fish stock, but then the fish were fished, which prevented the excessive growth of the aquatic plants by repeatedly stirring up the ground and thus clouding the water. After the fish were gone, the algae shot, the mayor said. “The fish are back in the meantime. And I hope that with the right fish stocking we will soon have an ecological grip on the matter again, ”said Dorsch. Draining the water and dredging the lake was definitely counterproductive.
City councilor Erika Sebrich (SPD) asked why there were so many dead fish at the lake for a while. “We have a large stock of white fish there,” said Dorsch. Because these fish had multiplied strongly and they had not met any hunters in the bathing lake, they had gained the upper hand and lay dead on the bank in droves. “That doesn't please the bather,” said Dorsch. That had nothing to do with poor water quality - on the contrary: "The water is super good, the fish are very healthy." On the one hand, fish were used to hunt these vast numbers of white fish and, on the other hand, they were fished, according to the mayor . “And then the great fish deaths were over.” There are many different components that contribute to making such a lake work. How is it currently with the geese at the lake, asked a listener at the end of the council meeting. As reported, gray geese were already a problem in 2018 and last year they threatened to become a nuisance. At that time even goose whisperers intervened, but they could not change anything. This year there were also shots to shed the geese, for which the competent authority at the district office had previously granted an exemption.for which the competent authority at the district office had previously granted an exemption.for which the competent authority at the district office had previously granted an exemption.
