The decision of the main and finance committee against mobile air filters is making waves.

Representatives of the parents' council are worried about face-to-face lessons in the new school year.

Geretsried - The decision of the main and finance committee against mobile air filters is making waves.

Representatives of the parents' councils of both primary schools followed the meeting last week in the Ratsstubensaal and are disappointed.

You hope that the last word has not yet been said on this issue and you want to talk to the mayor.

The city is responsible for material expenses for the Isardamm and Karl Lederer elementary schools as well as the middle schools in the Karl Lederer and Adalbert Stifter houses. In a special meeting, the city council committee decided not to purchase any mobile devices, as the state government gave no guarantee that this would eliminate the need for distance teaching and masking requirements (we reported). Instead, the city continues to rely on ventilation and on equipping the classrooms with stationary ventilation systems.

Dr.

Ingo Klagge is chairman of the parents' council of the Karl-Lederer-Grundschule and attended the meeting as a listener.

What particularly annoys him: "The discussion was not open-ended," he says.

The mayor and the administration only relied on sources and recommendations that are critical of the purchase of a room air filter.

"The city of Geretsried prefers to take the supposedly easier route, waiting for security and guarantees to be given elsewhere than to speak out in favor of the children in favor of buying room air filters with courage and an appropriate willingness to take risks." Klagge's wish would also have been that stakeholders such as parents' councils or school management are involved.

The chairman of the parents' council would have liked a working group

Andreas Vetter, who heads the Isardamm primary school's parents' council, also regrets that this was not the case. “We have been discussing air filters in the parents' council for a long time and have dealt with them more intensively than we did at the meeting. That was terrifying for us, ”says Vetter. He is surprised that, unlike other municipalities, there was no working group. There you could also have a look at devices and try them out. “For me personally, that's political tactics. I don't know what the people involved expect from it, ”says Vetter.

Heiko Globke, chairman of the parents' council at the Geretsried secondary school, can partially understand the decision of the committee members.

“Under the current evaluations, no statement can be made as to whether permanent school operation can be maintained with the installation of room air filters,” he says.

On the other hand, all possibilities would have to be exhausted in order to meet the demand for air purifiers in schools.

Here, however, he sees the federal and state governments as responsible for developing a uniform concept, also with regard to the quality standards of filter systems.

Parents say: there should no longer be distance or alternating lessons

Because the chairmen of the parents' council agree on one point: it must be possible to guarantee classroom teaching after the summer vacation.

"A new distance or alternating course is no longer justifiable for mental, spiritual and social development," says Globke.

This is also difficult for the parents to represent, adds Klagge.

"Parents cannot teach the material the way teachers do," he says.

Vetter, who himself has two primary school children, recently heard from a child that he wanted nothing more than to experience school without a mask.

"That tears your heart apart."
