Volkswagen boss Diess set off with a VW ID.3.

on holiday to Lake Garda.

In doing so, he had bad experiences.

However, that wasn't because of the car.

Munich - Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess ventured a self-experiment during his summer vacation this year.

He undertook a long-distance journey from Lake Constance to Lake Garda in a VW ID.3.

But apparently not everything went as smoothly as expected, as he reports on the professional network Linkedin.

"Was only just at Lake Constance with the ID.3: Rigoletto - then on to Lake", writes Diess.

"I now have an ID.3 PRO S, very good range with a cautious, defensive driving style - you could cope with Lake Constance - Lake Garda without intermediate charging - especially in dense holiday traffic."

VW boss Diess almost runs out of power: too few charging points on the burner

So Diess was certain that it would be able to travel the 480 kilometers between Lake Constance and Lake Garda in one go.

But then he obviously wanted to take a break from charging at the burner.

Apparently there were a few things he didn't like here.

“Too few charging points on the burner!

Only 4 - of course, everyone stops at the shopping center.

Busy. ”, Diess complains on LinkedIn.

So he had no choice but to get back on the road.

“So we went on to Trento.

Even after the criticism last year: no toilet, no coffee, one column out of order / defective, sad affair.

That is anything but a premium charging experience, Ionity! ”, Diess says, venting his anger.

VW boss Diess is almost running out of electricity: The expansion of the charging station network is not progressing

This has every reason to complain.

Because the charging station operator Ionity is a joint venture that BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen founded in 2017.

Hyundai joined them later.

The company is to build a charging network that should make long-distance trips with the electric car more comfortable.

But there is apparently a problem with the implementation.

Ionity should actually build 400 charging stations by the end of 2020.

But according to

Handelsblatt

, there were only around 300 stations with 1200 charging points - and according to Diess' experience, these apparently also do not work as desired.

VW boss Diess almost runs out of electricity: charging network operator reacts to criticism

Ionity took criticism from one of its funders to heart.

Because Managing Director and COO of Ionity, Marcus Groll, promptly replies to the post from the VW boss.

“Hello Herbert Diess, thank you very much for the feedback.

The location at Brenner is on our list of upgrade sites. ”Instead of four, six charging stations should be available in the future.

And customer service at the Trento location is also being improved.

This summer, however, there was a sharp increase in occupancy in many locations, especially in Norway, Sweden and France.

"For the Trento location, we are working with our location partner ENI to improve customer service," explains Groll.

“The defective charger was repaired yesterday.

Greetings to Italy".
