Damascus-SANA
The Forestry and Fire Monitoring Platform of the General Authority for Remote Sensing announced that the indicators of the danger of the spread of fires indicate that most of the forest areas in northwestern Syria will continue to be affected by the high levels of the fire risk index from tomorrow, Wednesday, until next Friday.
The head of the platform at the commission, Dr. Rosa Karmouqa, explained in a statement to the representative of SANA that the platform published an update to its bulletin showing a map of the fire danger for forest areas in northwest Syria for the period from the 10th to the 13th of this month.
Karmouqa indicated that the fire danger indicators for the forests of northwestern Syria continued today at approximately the same levels for the previous two days, so that the medium severity index “the length of the flame is moderate, as well as the intensity of the spread, and the fire can be easily extinguished using hand tools” in most of the sites.
Karmouka indicated that the indicators start with a gradual rise for the days from the 11th to the 13th of this month, and the area of land affected by the high risk index increases, as fires can spread easily, especially on slopes or the presence of dense fuel "weeds".
Karmouka indicated that the platform warned of the danger of igniting any fires, as we are still within the season of Mediterranean forest fires and the intensification of wind speed with the drying of the ground vegetation cover, which contributes to the uncalculated spread of fires.
