Groundbreaking ceremony in Hallbergmoos: A new roundabout is being built on Ludwigstrasse to relieve traffic in the Munich Airport Business Park.

Hallbergmoos

- A new roundabout in Hallbergmooser Ludwigstraße (junction Lilienthalstraße / Lindberghstraße) is to relieve the traffic in the Munich Airport Business Park.

At the groundbreaking on Monday, those responsible for the community underlined the importance of the construction project - for commuters to the industrial park and future users of the Surftown MUC.

Roundabout designed for 15,000 vehicles per day

The municipality had already had a traffic report drawn up in July 2019.

Because, as Mayor Josef Niedermair pointed out, traffic jams in rush hour traffic were already the order of the day - and at that point in time you “had the wave in your eye”.

The Surftown MUC, the largest surfing facility in Europe, is scheduled to go into operation in spring 2023.

Following the recommendation of the traffic planners, the municipality started planning a roundabout.

The funds - around one million euros - were released in 2020.

The roundabout has a diameter of 30 square meters, a lane width of 5.40 meters and is designed for around 15,000 vehicles per day.

“We want to do it differently from the airport.

We want to get the traffic in order before the surf park is built, ”emphasized the mayor.

"It is important to keep the traffic going"

After the unexpected death of Mayor Harald Reents in December of last year, Third Mayor Josef Fischer took over the lead - and kept: "He held many discussions, brought those involved together and did an excellent job," Niedermair thanked his deputy. The planning steps, according to Fischer, were tackled knowing that “there is a difficult junction here with a high volume of traffic”. In addition, there was a change of planner, time-consuming division work and land acquisition negotiations. In view of the good cooperation between the planner Ergun Dost and the Schulz construction company, Fischer expressed confidence that he would be able to meet the planned schedule. "It is important to maintain the flow of traffic into the industrial park," emphasized Fischer. The construction project should be completed by the end of the year. They are happy in the town hall that the local company Schulz won the public tender and virtually "has a constant view of the construction site from the office window".

The time frame for the construction work is currently favorable, emphasized Fischer.

"Many MABP employees still work in the home office, so we don't have the large traffic flows at the moment." Three months of construction are planned.

Provisional traffic lights as a stress test

In the main construction phase, Ludwigstrasse is expected to be completely closed in September and October.

Lilienthalstrasse will be passable as a dead end from Zeppelinstrasse for the entire period.

The diversion runs via Zeppelinstrasse and Am Söldnermoos to and from Dornierstrasse.

Provisional traffic lights will be set up.

This, in turn, is also a stress test, as Niedermair explained: “We will also get information as to whether a traffic light solution on Dornierstrasse has proven itself.

Of course, the results can only be used to a limited extent because the traffic to the airport is currently not as high as usual. ”As is well known, the plans of the State Building Authority for the confluence of Dornierstrasse with the B 301 provide for the installation of a traffic light.

The community would rather see bypasses there.
