Munich Airport

- The British consulting company Skytrax presented the “World Airport Awards” again this year.

Since 1999, the company has been evaluating over 500 airports worldwide according to various categories.

This is based on a passenger satisfaction survey.

Munich Airport always scores particularly well in the company's overall rating.

However, if you look at the world ranking of the best airports, a lot has changed this year.

Munich Airport: It loses a place in the world rankings - and still remains the front runner

Not only that, for the first time in nine years, Changi Airport in Singapore was not voted number 1 among the best airports in the world.

Munich Airport also had to settle for a worse place in the world rankings than in the previous year.

While Munich Airport was fifth worldwide in 2020, it is only sixth this year.

On the positive side, however, if you consider only the airports with a passenger volume between 40 and 50 million per year, the airport still ranks first. The five other airports that Munich Airport had to admit are all in Asia.

The front runner is Hamad Airport in Doha (Qatar).

Munich Airport: Munich Airport is still the best airport in Europe

Despite the loss, there are two trophies that no one can steal from Munich Airport. The airport near the Bavarian capital will remain the best airport in Europe in 2021. This is the 14th time in 16 years that the airport has won this award. This puts it ahead of the second-placed airport in Europe in Zurich (Switzerland). Terminal 2 in particular, with its numerous shopping and dining options, is very popular with passengers.

Another award for Munich Airport: since 2015 it has been the first and only worldwide 5-star airport.

This year, too, no other airport received an award in this category.

In addition to the simplified processes along the entire travel chain as well as clear signage and route guidance, according to the airport, the award is primarily based on exceptional service quality, modern ambience and great comfort.

“Perfect cleanliness” at Munich Airport: The “World Airport Award” says something else

Interesting side aspect: Another important criterion is perfect cleanliness in all areas, according to the airport's website.

In the Skytrax list of the cleanest airports, however, the airport only lands in second place in Europe behind Zurich.

Munch Airport is no longer represented in the top 10 of the world's cleanest airports.
