The idea is not new, but it has never been put forward like this: a 14-year-old schoolgirl enlightened the Olching city council. Or, to put it more precisely: She presented a concept for special lamps on a popular promenade that is currently pitch-dark.

The idea is not new, but it has never been put forward like this: a 14-year-old schoolgirl enlightened the Olching city council.

Or, to put it more precisely: She presented a concept for special lamps on a popular promenade that is currently pitch-dark.

Olching

- She was standing alone in the middle of a gym, around her 30 city councilors plus town hall employees and an audience in the stands: But Carina Bruckner was not deterred. The student, 14 years old, long dark hair, started her presentation and used the current quarter of an hour completely for her concern: more light on a popular route to the folk festival and Christmas market.

It's about the connection between Olching's center and Neu-Esting, near Neu-Estinger Straße.

Since it is the shortest way to Nöscherplatz or Volksfestplatz, the route is very popular with pedestrians and cyclists.

But: “There is no light over a distance of 500 meters, people are afraid,” said Bruckner.

So there is absolute darkness on a section through the forest that the city has explicitly designated as a footpath and bike path.

But Bruckner, whose mother Vanessa Bruckner is chairman of the local group of Free Voters in Olching, not only pointed out the problem.

She also immediately showed a solution: dimmed lamps that only light up when passing and driving by means of sensor controls.

There is already a pilot project called “Moving Light”, as the student explained: The energy supplier “Lechwerke”, together with “Leipziger Leuchten”, has installed LED systems on a bike and footpath in the Bavarian towns of Königsbrunn and Friedberg.

The result, according to Bruckner: Safe roads in rural areas with 70 percent less electricity consumption.

And the lighting could be financed by donations or a collection campaign (“crowdfunding”), for which the first commitments have already been made, assured Bruckner.

With this, the young Olchinger - as far as these points are concerned - immediately took the wind out of the sails of possible critics.

Because it invalidated arguments that were given in previous discussions on the topic: power consumption, light pollution or the death of insects and of course the acquisition costs.

And the high school student went one better: “This way you get more people to walk or ride a bike.” Climate protection on site, so to speak.

Plus: The economy is boosted because more people go out to eat - even without a car.

Mayor Andreas Magg (SPD) was already quite impressed: "My greatest respect for the courage to present this here." the Dachauer Straße opens. In addition, it is difficult to lay cables in the forest. Plus: "The problem of light pollution does not only apply to insects, but also to wild animals." And Magg did not necessarily see the lighting as a guarantee for more security, it could also lead to perpetrators to lie in wait there. Nonetheless, the town hall will examine the student's suggestions.

The group leaders agreed.

Ingrid Jaschke (Greens) said: “Dimmable lamps are a good idea.

There has been considerable progress in this area. ”Ralf Greim (SPD) pointed out that the issue of running lamps had already been dealt with at one point.

Still, he agreed to watch it again.

Andreas Teichmann (FDP) had already dealt with the matter in the past.

"I hope now that this application is more convincing than the one I made at the time."
